Last one with the chalk offense Part 3

I have seen Dana Holgorsen do the same talk twice once at Tony Franklin System Seminar in Dallas in 2010 the other time it was at the Texas High School Coaches Association Coaching School this past year.  He talked about game planning and showed how he broke down opponent which was good stuff but after the second time my self diagnosed Attention Deficient Disorder kicked in.

During his Coaching School presentation he starts to show the Orange Bowl where WVU scores 70 points.  The first thing that comes to mind as we are watching the cut-ups is they are getting really good field position.  The second thing is they are running this concept where the out of blue or trips they are running a Stick concept meshed with a Draw Concept.  So basically the Quarterback is reading the Inside Linebacker if he drops into coverage then the Quarterback gives the ball on to the H or F on the Draw.

I run Zone scheme (inside and outside) and a Gap scheme (Power, Counter, Power Kick pick two of those and get real good at them through the course of the season).  So my version of this concept is to just use Inside Zone with Stick.

We would have line up in Trips Right or Green Stack.

Offensive line would Run Inside Zone Left with an automatic Lock It= Backside Tackle Blocks the End and the Backside Guard has no help and base blocks the Defensive Tackle.

Routes
Y Runs a 6 yard Stick
H in Green Sweed in Trips a 4 yard Speed Out
Z Runs a MOR (Mandatory Outside Release on a Go Route

QB Reads Inside backer to the Right

  • If the Inside Backer Drops Give the Ball on the inside zone play
  • If the Inside Backer Steps up Go to Stick Read Go, Stick, Sweed/Out

Schedule for June 3-27:

Last one with the chalk offense Part 2

I was on my way back home listening to a podcast and it was Anthony Pratley he is the Owner of the website http://pistolspreadoption.com/  Coach Pratley was the Offensive Coordinator at Concordia University Ann Arbor.  He was previously the Head Football Coach at Leonardtown High School in Leonardtown, Md, served as Defensive Coordinator at Frankfort High School in Frankfort, MI and was the Head Football Coach at Mesick High School in Mesick, MI.

During the interview he is describing this new package called the "Silencer Package" and as he goes on to describe it.  I am having a flash back to a college game I coached at when I was a Graduate Assistant at Southwest Minnesota State we were playing at Winona.  And they had this offense that really stressed the defense where they would line up like this:

The "Fly Package"
The Offensive line would run Inside Zone to the right.
The Recievers would block like it was outside zone.
Quarter back would open up and ether pitch the ball to the King set fullback where he would be arcing to the the right or give it to the Tailback on the Inside zone play.

The "Silencer Package"

Formation Green Stack (System Terminology)
Offensive Line you can run Inside Zone Left or Counter Left
F is reading

  • Inside Zone 1st Defender past the Center then Playside B to A Backside A to B
  • Counter A gap to B gap to C gap (Expect Butt Chewing if the gain is less then 4 yards)

H is Running a Sweed  Route (System Terminology) to the Numbers looking back at the QB every 3rd step
Z is Blocking the #1 DEFENDER with left foot in the middle of the DEFENDER
Y is Blocking the #2 DEFENDER (not counting a High Safety) with left foot in the middle of the DEFENDER
X is Blocking the #1 DEFENDER

Q is reading the END if he stays Give to the F If the End Chases then Throw the Ball to the H on the Sweed.

I like this Package for a few reasons:

  1. It attacks the End so those times you cannot block somebody you can still be effective running the ball. Example: What TCU did to JJ Watts in the Rose Bowl.
  2. You can run the read game without your QB running the ball.
  3. Really Slows down the backside pursuit.

If they are gap Exchanging the End and the Inside Linebacker then only Run Inside Zone Lock it on the backside Guard and Tackle.  Lock It= Backside Tackle Blocks the End and the Backside Guard has no help and base blocks the Defensive Tackle.

Greater Houston
Senior Football Showcase
February 20th, 8:00AM-5:00 PM
Methodist Training Bubble Reliant Center

On February 20th the Touchdown Club of Houston, along with the Houston Independent School District will be holding a Senior Football Showcase for all unsigned class of 2010 Sr. Football players.  This Showcase is 100% free for all participants and colleges.  Last year the event was held for all graduating HISD Seniors.  The event had 22 NAIA and Division III Colleges and Universities in attendance.  The event also generated 112 offers of scholarships (roughly 3 million dollars) to the 230 student athletes in attendance.

This year with the support of the Touchdown Club of Houston we are looking to expand the participating high schools to all Greater Houston Area schools.

If you have a Sr. football player on your team that would like to continue to play at the next level please pass on this information to them.  The only requirements that we have is for the student athlete to be a graduating senior, and have a SAT or ACT score on file.

This is a 100% free showcase designed for student athletes to participate at DIV III, and NAIA schools.  As you know with these schools your SAT score is a lot more important then your athletic ability when determining scholarships.  Please pass out the attached student registration form to any of your players that show an interest in playing football in college.  Space is limited so please encourage them to turn it in as soon as possible.

Road Warrior

This past year I worked about an one hour plus from my house I dealt with the drive several ways:

  1. Audio Books Nick Sabin would Say I was "Spending  Time"
  2. Podcasts
  3. Converting Football Videos and Clinics to MP3 Files
Audio Books Listened to a lot of books I did get my Inner Nerd on and Finished the Wheel of Time Series and started the Lorien Legacies along with all the Star Wars audio books I could find.   I did find Bill and Me very profound and Wins, Losses, and Lessons An Autobiography by Lou Holtz very good.  I found all of these at http://hadc.lib.overdrive.com/1B549203-2174-4C05-BE7E-CBE5F6736474/10/50/en/Default.htm its great if you local library is a member.

Podcast coaching resources you can search for these and subscribe to them on Itunes

http://www.compusportsradio.com/coachscorner.asp
http://www.footballcoachingpodcast.com/
http://www.strengthcoachpodcast.typepad.com/

Ok Converting files to MP3 there might be other ways to do this but this is the way I did it.

  • Step 1 Down Load YTD Video Downloader For Youtube videos (its free) & Down Load Magic Ripper (you got to spend some money)
  • Step 2 Rip coaching DVD's that you allready have to your CPU
  • Step 3 using the YTD convert your video file to an MP3
  • Step 4 open Itunes and Add MP3 file to your libary
You can also scour youtube for coaching clinics and speaking engagements and download them using YTD then follow steps 3 & 4

I hope this makes that drive, run, or mowing easier for you Road Warriors and Remember:
